SIDNEY OUTLAW TO PERFORM IN HAYDN’S CREATION

By October 30, 2014 No Comments

Sidney Outlaw will bring new life to the angel “Raphael” as part of Haydn’s The Creation, produced by the Oratorio Society of New York (OSNY), led by Kent Tritle. The concert will be held at 8 p.m. on Monday, November 3 at Carnegie Hall.

Outlaw, who continues to delight audiences with his rich and versatile baritone and engaging stage presence, will join soloists soprano Susanna Phillips, who will return to the Metropolitan Opera in 2014-15 for the seventh consecutive season, and sang the Brahms Ein Deutsches Requiem and Paul Moravec’s Blizzard Voices with OSNY; and tenor Aaron Blake, who has played Mozart roles across the country and has sung Messiah, Mendelssohn’s Die Erste Walpurgisnacht and Mozart’s Requiem with OSNY.

“I am delighted to perform with such a talented group of musicians, and I am especially delighted to work with Mr. Kent Tritle,” said Outlaw, who recently performed the role of Elijah with the Oratorio Society, and will rejoin the Oratorio Society in December for its annual performance of Messiah. “This is sure to be a moving performance, put on by world-class musicians.”

The Creation is an oratorio written between 1796 and 1798 by Joseph Haydn, and considered by many to be his masterpiece. The oratorio depicts and celebrates the creation of the world as described in the Book of Genesis and Paradise Lost.

Outlaw joined the roster of the Metropolitan Opera covering the role of “Mamoud” in The Death of Klinghoffer. He will also perform in recital with Howard Watkins in the Carnegie Hall Neighborhood Recital Series. In addition, Outlaw was featured in a historic recording, singing the role of “Apollo” in Milhaud’s Oresteia of Aeschylus (Naxos). In summer 2015, Outlaw will make his Spoleto Festival debut as “Jake” in Porgy and Bess.

The Oratorio Society of New York, the second oldest cultural organization in New York City, has been part the city’s musical life since 1873. The Society’s 175 members come from all walks of life to volunteer their time for the joy of making music together.
