BATON ROUGE — Two-time Grammy nominated R&B sensation Chrisette Michele and Baton Rouge-based band U4ria will perform at the Lyceum on Jan. 28, as part of the Soul Refined Concert Series. The Soul Refined Concert Series is a new stream of upscale urban entertainment that plans to showcase contemporary national and local artists in the Baton Rouge metropolitan area.

Singer/songwriter Chrisette Michele will perform hits from her sophomore album Epiphany, as well as melodies from her first album I AM. Hit singles “Epiphany” and “Blame it on Me” from her latest album have been fan favorites, with the album’s title single earning the No. 7 spot on AOL’s Top Ten R&B songs of 2009. Rocking out in Baton Rouge as part of her Epiphany Tour, the Long Island, N.Y. native blends her jazz vocal style with pop and hip-hop beats, and has been described by Entertainment Weekly as a “soulful songbird.”

Known as the “most sought after band in the South,” U4ria is made up of successful business professionals who know their way around the chromatic scale, playing a mixture of the upbeat ballads for which Chrisette Michele is known to the tunes of The Staples Singers. The group’s lead singer, Arianne, is an up and coming female vocalist from New Orleans. The eclectic cover band has opened for rap phenomenon Akon, played at the New Orleans Gentilly Festival and showcased their musical prowess at several area night clubs and venues.

U4ria bass player, Tha Hip Hop Doc, blends his musical ability and work as a physician to deliver healthful messages to students across the state and nation. He has written a comic book series on health, produced two health-related music projects for teens and will help the Louisiana Highway and Safety Commission educate teens on the dangers on underage drinking and driving. As part of the concert series, Tha Hip Hop Doc and Chrisette Michele will visit a local school to bring healthy and encouraging messages to inner-city youth.

The artists will also be on hand at a Meet & Greet held at The End Zone, 6224 Plank Road, Suite E. During the Meet & Greet, Chrisette Michele will sign autographs and greet fans. Tha Hip Hop Doc and other U4ria group members will be present, and Lem Payne—Chrisette Michele’s brother—will warm the crowd with his melodies. In addition, local artist Christopher P. Turner will also paint a live scene during the 7:30 p.m. concert.
