Event Involves Community in Child Abuse Prevention

BATON ROUGE – The Capitol City is invited to join the Center of Empowerment for Families and Youth, Inc. in taking a stand against child abuse. The Center is set to host its inaugural cocktail reception in honor of National Child Abuse Prevention month on April 5. The event will be held from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Baton Rouge Gallery.

The Center of Empowerment for Families and Youth is dedicated to providing quality educational, mental health, physical health and mentoring services to victims of child abuse and other underserved populations. The Center is also focused on supporting and creating strong families so that the children and adults can thrive within the Baton Rouge community.

Supporters will gather at the Center’s inaugural reception, called A Night for Our Children, to learn more about the Center’s effort to combat child abuse. Attendees will also hear some personal struggles and triumphs from individuals who have benefited from the Center’s efforts. The event is free and open to the public.

“We want to start this event to touch the lives of our youngest, and often our most vulnerable citizens – children,” said Catrina Pullum, who serves as chair for the Center of Empowerment’s Board of Directors. “We want this night to bring people together so that we can all support victims of child abuse.”

The reception will feature a silent auction and special presentations from local artist Brandon Lewis, McKinley Middle Magnet School and the Southern University-Baton Rouge communications department. Author Azalea Lindsey will speak to attendees about child abuse. Up-and-coming inspirational singer LOVE Allmon is scheduled to perform.

“This is an exciting time for Baton Rouge and the surrounding community,” Allmon said. “It is absolutely refreshing to see so many people come together to support a worthy cause. A Night for Our Children is a great endeavor, and I am excited to perform for an organization that is committed to protecting and serving children. This is sure to be one of my most memorable performances ever.”

Event sponsors include Lamar Advertising, Raising Canes, L’Auberge Casino & Hotel, VAR Events, Publishing Shack, Prince Photography, Electronic Media Gulf Coast, Nothing Bundt Cakes, Upward Barbecue Catering, and more.
