The Minority Business Advisory Council has been meeting for the past several months to learn more about Nashville’s entrepreneurial ecosystem and to identify barriers to growth for women and minority owned businesses.
The Council, which is chaired by our agency director, Ashley Northington, reviewed the findings and recommendations in the 2018 Metro Nashville Disparity Study. These findings show the city’s procurement processes are biased against minority businesses.
The council is tasked with making policy, program, practice, and partnership recommendations to the Mayor’s Office to improve outcomes for minority businesses and to overcome the disparities. The ultimate goal is for the recommendations we put forward to be implemented in ways that allow minority businesses to create more jobs and wealth in their communities.
