BATON ROUGE — In back-to-back shows, two of the hottest performers in the nation will perform as part of the next installments of the highly acclaimed SOUL REFINED Concert Series. In conjunction with Baton Rouge native and Orlando Magic power forward Brandon Bass and the Brandon Bass Reach Back Foundation, SOUL REFINED will showcase Grammy-award winning artist Monica at 8 p.m. on Friday, July 30 at the Baton Rouge River Center Theater. The event brand will also highlight the musical artistry of Neo-Soul crooner Dwele at 6 p.m. on Saturday, July 31 at the Lyceum Ballroom.

Grammy Award-winning and 10-million-plus selling singer Monica promises to rock the audience with tracks from her latest album, aptly titled Still Standing. With “Don’t Take It Personal (Just One of Dem Days)” and “Before You Walk Out Of My Life,” Monica became the youngest female ever to have two #1 back-to-back hits on Billboard’s R&B chart from her 1995 debut album Miss Thang. By 1998, her next album The Boy Is Mine, garnered Monica her Grammy when she paired with Brandy to release a song of the same name. Monica’s other albums—The Makings of Me and After the Storm have also given Monica Billboard success.

A portion of the proceeds from the Monica concert will benefit the Brand Bass Reach Back Foundation which will give away more than 300 backpacks to underprivileged Baton Rouge youth. Bass, who attended LSU, is hosting the inaugural Brandon Bass All-Star Celebrity Weekend Takeover. In addition to the concert, the weekend will feature an All-Star Celebrity Bowling Battle at Don Carter All Star Lanes on Saturday; an All-Star Celebrity After Party at the Lyceum Ballroom Saturday; and an All-Star Sunday Brunch at the Belle of Baton Rouge Casino on Sunday. Tickets for the All-Star Celebrity Weekend Takeover’s events can be purchased via

For Saturday night’s concert, soul singer and song writer Dwele will perform hits from his debut album, Subject, and his sophomore effort SOME KINDA. New Singles, “I Think I Love U” and “Flapjacks” are sure to be crowd pleasers. Entertainment Weekly has raved about the Soul Singer’s work and SOUL REFINED concert-goers are sure to hear hints of old-school legends such as Marvin Gaye and Donnie Hathaway and mixed with the new-school flavor of artists such as Tweet, Carl Thomas and even Dirty South rapper Mike Jones in Dwele’s music. However, the crooner’s foremost inspiration is drawn from A Tribe Called Quest. The concert, titled the SOUL EXPERIENCE, will be hosted by inspirationAL speaker and faith leader Ricky Allmon.

After the Saturday concert, SOUL REFINED will also present the Brandon Bass All-Star Celebrity After Party at the Lyceum Ballroom. The Celebrity Party will feature a variety of entertainment’s and sports’ hottest stars, plus a few surprise guests.
