We partnered with Kifani, Incorporated to launch its latest children’s book project, Yani and Shani’s Rainy Day, in the fall of 2015. We were tasked with managing the publicity efforts for the book, ensuring it was featured in publications and outlets that reached the book’s intended audience.

Best friends Ayana Byrd and Shani Saxon-Parrish teamed up to pen their first children’s book, Yani and Shani’s Rainy Day, which was released in October 2015. This refreshing title for little readers was a welcomed addition to a children’s book market that lacks diversity.  According to a recent study by the Cooperative Children’s Book Center, only 3% of children’s books feature characters of color.

Illustrated by Los Angeles-based artist Meegan Barnes, the vivid, lush watercolor paintings follow five-year-old best friends Yani and Shani on a magical journey as they battle their rainy day blues. Not only are Yani and Shani full of imagination, but they are hip, chic and lovable too!

The project was featured as a Kickstarter Staff Pick, The Root, G.C. Deniwddie, Rattles and Heels, Madame Noire, HerHairPin.com, Essence and Ebony.
