BATON ROUGE — Raheem DeVaughn, the man behind the Grammy-nominated smash hits “Woman” and “Customer” and the newest radio smash “I Don’t Care,” brings his version of urban soul to the highly acclaimed SOUL REFINED Concert Series. The SOUL REFINED Concert Series is a new stream of upscale entertainment for urban professionals that plans to showcase contemporary national artists in Baton Rouge and other metropolitan areas nationwide.
DeVaughn made his start performing in clubs in the Washington, D.C. area. After several independent releases, the soulful crooner signed with Jive Records and dropped The Love Experience in 2005. Two years later in 2007, DeVaughn hit the music scene with Love Behind the Melody which garnered him two Grammy nods, two BET J Awards for “Best Male R&B Artist” and “Album of the Year” as well as a prime slot on tour with renowned R&B singer Jill Scott.
Urban gospel singer Adrianne Archie will open for DeVaughn during the May 6 event, held at the Lyceum Dean Ballroom in downtown Baton Rouge. Archie, whose music draws upon several influences such as gospel, hip-hop, R&B, and neo-soul, has been able to grab the ears of multiple listeners with her debut CD, HTHAELHH (He That Hath An Ear, Let Him Hear). HTHAELHH received the Best New Artists and Best Female Artists awards from the Urban Gospel Alliance. Archie’s first effort also received a 5-star rating by Gospel Today Magazine. Fans await her upcoming release HSMS (Heart, Soul Mind & Strength).
